VIP

One of the best things in life when you're 2? Being friends with the goat lady. Oh yes. Lila got to jump in the goat pen at the State Fair and play with goats.

A group of kids walked by the baby goat pen and wondered out loud, "how come they get to play with the goats?"  Because we know the goat lady.  Yessirree.  Card-carrying goat friends, we are.

(There was SO much excitement, in fact, that in the whole time she was in the pen, I didn't manage to capture a single photo where either she, Daddy, or half a dozen goats weren't blurry.  Fun was had, people.)

Picnic at the lake

Peanut butter sandwich? Don't mind if I do.

Lila met her buddy James at the lake for a picnic.  Of course Lila wanted nothing to do with her own sandwich, but was happy to partake in her friend's sandwich.

Water Play Day

Yesterday was water play day at Lila's school, and they sent us this picture of her enjoying the fun. I can't believe how much she looks like a little girl here.  Where has our baby gone?

Snort.

Have you read the book, "Are You My Mother?" by PD Eastman?  It's one of Lila's favorite books, and the biggest reason why she is so into construction equipment.

In the book, a baby bird hatches and sets out to find his mother.  Among the animals and things he thinks may be his mother is a backhoe.  He calls it a "snort" for the loud, snorting noise it makes.  As such, any big piece of construction machinery is known as a snort at our house.  And all snorts are amazing in Lila's eyes.  Lucky girl, there is a lot of construction going on around our house right now.

Imagine our delight - ours every bit as much as Lila's - when we came across this beauty yesterday.  For once when she jumped up and down in a store and declared, "it's for Lila!", she was absolutely right.

It was practically made for her.

Busy girl

Lila's class made little hats today. While she loved wearing it, Lila wasn't a fan of being photographed in her tiny hat.

These teachers come up with THE cutest crafts for the kids.  Seriously.

Our garden is planted, and Lila can't get enough of it already.  She helped plant all of the veggies and herbs, helped lay the mulch, and she waters the plants with me every day it doesn't rain.

Yesterday we had storms all day, and Lila told me, "Lila like thunder."  Oh really? "Thunder bring rain.  Rain make tomatoes happy."

Melt.

On one of the cooler evenings this week, we had tacos at one of our favorite spots and then took a walk by the river. As always, we pretty much had to drag Lila away from the water.  She's ready for swimming season, that's for sure!

Lila is so chatty lately.  She especially loves singing.  She's singing the alphabet song and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.  At the letter "s" she usually switches from English to Spanish, proudly singing louder and louder with each letter, before loudly proclaiming "ZETA!" ("Z!") at the end. Funny girl. This morning while laying in bed we heard her humming Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.

One of Lila's favorite songs has always been "Las Ruedas del Camion" - "The Wheels on the Bus" - and now she's picking it up in English, too, only she'll roll her arms and sing "wheels on the bus go wowee wow...wowee wow..."

Love, love.

Summer Weekend

Lila had a very busy, very fun weekend.

We did lots of gardening, and Lila even got a wheelbarrow ride with Daddy!

We went to buddy Hudson's third birthday party, where Lila and her buddies painted flower pots and planted flowers.  That's the birthday boy on the right. Quite the focused little artist. :)

Lila remains a huge fan of her puppies.  They love her as well, although Wally wasn't loving Lila's attempts to go in for a kiss yesterday.

Pretty please?

Lila decided yesterday that she wanted to ride the big girl swing at the park.  Upon realizing the amount of work involved in the actual act of swinging, she dismounted and insisted I let her push me on the swing.   We were quite a sight to behold, I'm sure.  :)

Looking forward to many more fun summer weekends ahead!

Bike Adventures

This weekend we took Lila for her first bike ride!

She wasn't quite sure what to think at first, but armed with a snack and some water (and a pretty sweet helmet) we she was convinced.

And we're OFF!

Of course we stopped at a park. The rocking dolphin was a huge hit.

We also stopped at Lila's favorite Parkway attraction, the giant BUNNY!

There was also a stop at the beach, but I didn't get any pictures.  Next time - and there will be a next time.  There has been a bike ride every day since we brought home the new bike trailer.  I love that we can finally bring her along and ride together as a family!
