Sick.

Lila's 46 week photo is delayed this week. We didn't take her traditional Sunday photo because she was under the weather. We thought that she was feeling better on Monday morning, and we even took her to daycare. Just a few hours after arriving at work I got a phone call that Miss Lila had a fever and chills. She was not a happy camper yesterday. She's been sick before, but this time has been very different. Her fever is high and she is lethargic. Tylenol hasn't helped much, and actually made matters worse. She's interested only in sleeping and snuggling. Thankfully snuggles are in abundant supply at our house.

Our poor monkey had a very rough night last nightand is at home recuperating with Daddy today.

Once she's back to her happy self, I'll take her 46 week photo and get it posted. Until then, stay well, friends!

44 weeks and 45 weeks

Our little Vikings fan at 44 weeks old.

... and at 45 weeks old.

Lila checking the game time. She LOVES to type on the keyboard. She also loves to dial our cell phones. We've got quite a tech-savvy little girl, it seems.

Lila enjoyed her first bubble bath. Look at those chompers! Two on top, two on bottom.

Lila loved the bubble bath, but we eventually had to take her out because she was enjoying eating the bubbles. We let it go with a few "bites", but then we were afraid she'd start farting bubbles if we let it go too much longer.

10 months

Lila turned 10 months old on Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving.

It snowed on Wednesday so we decided to take Lila's picture in the backyard in the snow. Lila did not love this idea. She cannot figure out why we would torture her by putting mittens on her. She can't grab anything with mittens on! Don't we know how MEAN this is?!

Angry or not, she's pretty darn cute. She makes this face quite a bit now that she's got teeth. She bares her teeth and grunts or growls. I love it!

Lila's daddy and his favorite 10 month old. :)

I love this picture, but ok....I have to explain the horns. Aren't they hilarious? Every couple of days, the daycare ladies must get bored because they put all of the baby girls' hair in pigtails. I keep trying to snap a picture of Lila with her tiny pigtails, but she will have none of it. She leaves the piggies in all day at daycare, but the minute I show up, they are OUT! She yanks them out and then the rest of the day she's got devil horns. Pretty funny, and maybe even better than pigtails!

Someone said to me the other day that she can hardly believe that Lila's "almost one". I think my heart skipped a beat. She's definitely a lot closer to one than she is to being a tiny baby (thank GOD) but "almost one"? Our baby is growing so fast! I keep saying this over and over, but it's so true - she gets more and more fun with each passing week. She's still not the biggest fan of sleep sometimes. She's interactive, funny, independent, and she is endlessly amused by her puppies, her parents, and most of all, herself.

Speaking of sleep, the girl is ready for her nap.

Happy 10 months, my love!

43 weeks

Lila was 43 weeks old on Sunday the 21st. Here's our girl just after waking up from her nap. It was a busy day - we had to get the photos in while we rememberd.

Remember when the "Z" was almost as big as her? Oh, how she's grown!

Lila continues to love solids, especially now that she's got the chompers to help her out with the whole chewing thing. Yum, apples! Apples are her favorite, for sure. Here's our little Elmer Fudd enjoying some apples for breakfast.

Lila has gotten so much mail in her short life, and she's just now getting big enough to really be interested in it. She got a package from her grandma the other day and she was alllll about opening it up and claiming the contents. A pair of jeans and a crinkle book - SCORE! She loves, loves, loves anything that crinkles.

Lila is really enjoying bathtime these days. We usually bathe her in her little plastic tub, but a couple of times lately we've just filled the big people tub and plunked her in. She seems to like that, too. At bathtime we load her up with her rubber duckies and a few other bath toys. She loves to toss all of the toys over the side of the tub and then she spends the rest of the bathtime retrieving each toy, bringing it back to the tub, and then she tosses them out again, one by one. When we bathe her in the big people tub she chucks her toys up and over the side out onto the bathroom floor. Not sure what that's all about, but it's pretty funny!

We are definitely enjoying this age. Lila is content to sit and play on her own, and she keeps herself pretty well entertained for quite a while. It's so much fun to watch her learn and explore and figure out all of her toys.

In teeth news, Lila visited the dentist this week. I've been going to the same dentist for over 10 years now and he is the best. When I went in for my last checkup, Lila was 3 months old and I asked him a bunch of questions about baby teeth, when they come in, and how to take care of them. He told me I could bring her in when her first teeth made their appearance, and he'd just check to be sure that everything looked good. So, on Veteran's Day when I had the day off, in we went! Lila has 2 healthy top teeth and two health bottom teeth peeking out. We talked about keeping her teeth clean (she hates the toothbrush, so we use a washcloth) and things to watch for as she gets older and more teeth come in. She's all set and probably won't need to go back until she's about three. I wish that I had gotten pictures of her visit, but I was busy holding the little patient on my lap, and all of the hygenists were too busy fawning over her to take a picture.

Also on the day of the dentist visit, we had Lila's (belated) 9 month checkup. She's healthy and weighing in at 19 pounds, 5 ounces! Growing strong!

42 weeks

Lila was 42 weeks old on the 14th. Look at those TEETH!

Lila's Godparents went to Italy on vacation and they sent her a postcard. Lila didn't let go of that postcard the whole day, even when we put her to bed.

Mail for ME?

Read it again, please?

New teeth are on their way! Two bottom teeth are coming in, slowly but surely.

Miss Scooter Z

Lila started scooting today! She started out with her tush on the rug and then turned about 90 degrees. Scooooot....

Backwards, backwards...

She got stuck in the splits for a bit...

and then used her hands to push herself up to a sitting position. Ta-da!

Total distance covered about 3.5 feet! Looks like we're going to have to get serious about Lila-proofing out house.

When I pulled the scooting pictures off the camera, I found another Halloween picture. This is Lila and me at daycare the Friday before Halloween.

My sweet, smiley duckling. :)

41 weeks - now with more teeth!

Lila is 41 weeks old today!

It was a beautiful day here today so we were able to enjoy some time on the front porch this morning.

Lila eats oatmeal for breakfast every day at daycare. On the weekends I make us all a big crock pot of steel cut oats, which Lila loves. One thing, though - she won't let me feed it to her on a spoon. She insists on eating it with her fingers. I kind of roll up little balls of oatmeal and put them on her tray and she goes nuts. Silly girl!

As always, wherever Lila goes, there's Rocco. Best buds. No sleeping on the job, Rocco!

Today we were all dressed in our Vikings gear. We went to Costco and Home Depot after the game, and we were asked no fewer than five times if we had been at today's game. Not sure why people thought we were at the game, especially with a baby, but whatever. When we got home Lila went straight into the tub. When she got out, she dried off with her favorite towel - her VIKINGS towel! This towel was a handmade gift from the lovely and talented Ann. Thanks again, Ann! :)

I love her little foot at the bottom of this picture. I seriously cannot get enough of her feet. Little baby feet are just too cute for words.

Yesterday Lila had kind of a rough day. She didn't want to sleep much and was generally kind of grumpy. During a meltdown in the car, I peeked into her mouth and noticed at least one new tooth sprouting out of her lower gums! Today she let me stick my finger in and there's definitely a new tooth in there. Razor sharp! We gave her some Tylenol and she seemed to feel better within just a few minutes. She got another dose before bed tonight, so I hope she sleeps restfully without pain.

Woops - spoke too soon. She's awake! Teething's a drag.

40 weeks - Happy Halloween!

Lila was 40 weeks old on Halloween day.

I can't believe I forgot to take her Baby Z picture! We were so busy taking costume pictures, and it just slipped off the radar. Never fear - there are lots of adorable pictures ahead!

Lila was a duck for Halloween this year. She was pretty confused by her costume at first, and she was really weirded out by other people's costumes. The babies and teachers at daycare wore their costumes on Friday, and Lila was FREAKED OUT at first. I don't really blame her - her teachers went all out. They had full-on makeup, hats, and one woman even had on long, sparkly eyelashes. No one really looked like themselves that day. She settled in pretty quickly, though.

Here's our little duckling.

Lila went trick-or treating with her buddies Matthew, Forrest, and Enzo. She made it about two blocks before she got tired. Here's the whole crew!

Daddy telling Lila what trick-or treating is all about.

Our neighbors go ALL OUT for Halloween every year. Here's a small part of their display that I thought was particularly funny.

Lila and her puppy (yep, that's her Easter basket! Worked really well for trick-or-treating).

Lila and Daddy again... :)

As soon as we knew that Lila was going to be a duck, Ed wanted a picture of her in a stock pot. Duck soup, get it? Har, har. ;) Lila played along but was less than amused.

Lila's first Halloween was a smashing success! Her mom and dad have far too much candy hanging around the house, though...

39 weeks and NINE MONTHS!

Lila is 39 weeks old today! She's also a whole NINE MONTHS old! Nine months! I can hardly believe how fast time has flown. She's getting so big.

(She could not be persuaded to smile. No way, no how. This is the closest I could get. Silly girl.)

It has been a big week for Lila. Her Grandpa came to visit this week. Here they are enjoying breakfast together on Saturday morning.

We walked to a cafe down the street for lunch on Saturday. While the grown - ups ate lunch, Lila enjoyed chomping on apples. After she was done with an apple slice, she'd let us know by dropping it on the ground. Silly girl!

After lunch we walked to our neighborhood flower shop to find a pumpkin for Lila. She picked out the biggest, prettiest pumpkin she could find. We loaded it up in her stroller and headed for home. Roll out!

Lila loves her pumpkin. She spent a lot of time petting it.

Happy girl and her pumpkin.

Look, Grandpa! I have a PUMPKIN!

This morning it was rainy and a bit chilly. Lila and I decided to head out for a run, so I got her all snuggled up in the jogging stroller and headed out. I thought she seemed awfully quiet while I was running. Turns out that even though it was kind of a bumpy ride, she had fallen asleep. Her eyes popped open under her hat just as I pulled out the camera.

On Wednesday I picked up Lila a bit early and we headed to the doctor's office to have some nasty diaper rash checked out. She got a prescription and has been feeling much better. She weighed in at 18 lbs, 14 oz. When we got home Lila suddenly decided that it was time to start talking! Her new favorite thing is to say, "Da da da da da!" One daddy in particular was pretty excited that night. :)

In addition to her new found verbal skills, Lila has also started signing! Her daycare teaches the babies sign language, but until this week we hadn't noticed Lila trying to sign. Then one of the daycare ladies told me that she can sign "more", but we hadn't been able to get her to do it. We kept asking her, "more? more?" before we'd give her more food. Nothing. Suddenly, it dawned on me that at daycare they don't speak English to her, so I asked her, "mas?" ("more?" in Spanish). BINGO! She signed, "more"! Now each time she wants another drink of water or more food, she'll sign to us to indicate "more" ("mas")! Now we've got her signing to us if we ask in either English or Spanish. Woo hoo! We're so proud! We think she's also trying to sign, "please". I asked the daycare ladies about it and they said that she pays very careful attention to the older babies and tries to imitate what they are doing. Soon she may be trying out "please", "thank you", "food", and "milk". I love it!

Perhaps the most fun thing Lila's doing right now is waving. When I pick her up in the afternoon, I always try to sneak a peak in the door to see what she's doing before she sees me. I love catching a little glimpse of her playing with the other babies. But as soon as she sees me, her she waves frantically and her whole body bounces with excitement. Just anticipating her excitement makes me want to drive to daycare as fast as I can. It's my favorite part of the day.

Each week with Lila is more fun than the one before. She has so much personality and she's learning and changing right before our eyes!

38 weeks

Last Sunday, Lila turned 38 weeks old!

We've had a beautiful fall. It's starting to get chilly outside, so Lila bunded up for our Sunday morning walk to get coffee.

It was a very good week for Lila. Her teeth are really in now. She looks like such a big girl when she smiles! She's so expressive these days, too.

Lila is getting stronger and stronger. I have the feeling that we'd better get our house Lila-proofed very soon, because she's becoming more and more determined to get to where she wants to be.

I remember some friends telling us that their daughter just keeps getting to be more and more fun the older she gets. So far, that has totally been the case with Lila. Every week since about 6 months has been my favorite week with Lila. She's really becoming her own little person - it's so much fun.
