13 weeks - the 2nd trimester begins!

Today is a good day - it's the beginning of the 2nd trimester! The 2nd trimester is supposedly the "most comfortable" trimester of pregnancy, which I guess is up for discussion depending on which mom you talk to. I, however, am more comfortable just knowing that the beginning of the 2nd trimester marks a dramatic drop in the risk of, well...bad things about which we will not speak today. Today is a GOOD day! Baby Z is relaxing comfortably and growing like crazy.

This week, Baby Z will respond to light touch. His or her head now makes up only 1/3 of his or her body, compared to 1/2 not too long ago. From here on out, the body will be growing at a faster rate than the head, meaning Baby Z's days of looking like an alien are coming to a close.

This week, Baby Z is the size of a PEACH! Peaches are soft and beautiful and delicate, just as I imagine Baby Z to be. See? It's an all around good week. Even the produce comparisons are good!


Baby Z would also like to make an announcement about his or her development this week...

Woo! Weirdness. This little, tiny baby inside me already has a skeletal system. Actually, he or she has every system and body part a newborn baby would have...just much smaller. From here on out, everything keeps developing and getting bigger.
